Gintama New Promos Feature New Scenes, Seiyuu Voice Acting & Theme Songs

TV Tokyo has released some new promos showing off Gintama's upcoming anime for 2017.

An earlier promo teases the theme songs and their respective bands. Seen below, the first teaser plays the theme songs in the background. The opening theme will be performed by ЯeaL, titled Kagero. For the ending theme song, RIZE will perform Silver.

The second promo features the Yorozuya seiyuus talking in the background. There are a few other scenes added when compared to the previous teaser. For one, we see Takasugi in critical condition. There's also a glimpse of Utsuro, who—spoilers here—is supposed to be Gintoki's and the Joui three's sensei Shoyo.

As always, there still looks like a few humorous parts in the anime, as it should. Gintama was not written to be dark and heavy alone. Yet from some hints mentioned above, it really looks like the battle is so very on.

This season is going to be intense. I've been loosely following the manga, since I didn't want to totally spoil the story. But from what I've seen so far, we'll finally get a good, clear, and animated look at Gintoki's past with his sensei. I know it will be a heartbreaking story especially when his worst enemy is the memory that haunts him of the day he wasn't able to save his sensei.

Gintama's newest season for the anime will debut on Jan. 9 on TV Tokyo, TV Hokkaido, TV Aichi, TV Setouchi, and TVQ Kyushu Broadcasting first. It has also moved from its premiere 6:00 pm timeslot to a later, more adult one at 1:35 am—which I think is a good decision, so we can say goodbye to the PTA that keeps close watch on the jokes.
