Giancarlo Esposito has long been on the fans' radar in terms of comic book film castings and for good reason. The beloved actor has been killing every project and role he's been tasked to do and many believe he'd be a great fit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Well, it turns out that The Mandalorian star could very well be headed to the successful franchise.

Appearing on the TJH Superhero Car Show & Comic Con in San Antonio (via The Direct), the Moff Gideon actor finally confirmed what fans have been speculating for months now: that he's in fact in talks with Marvel Studios over a potential role in the MCU.

He reveals: "So, I have not worked for Marvel yet. I’ve been in a room with them and talked with them, and to answer your question, I think what they do is on the lines of that mythological journey that Joe Campbell talked about, who happened to be a friend of George Lucas that George Lucas put into his stories. They do the same thing."

Esposito added that while villains such as Magneto and Doctor Doom have been brought up, he's particularly interested in playing Professor X. "So, there’s been talk of Magneto, there’s been talk of Dr. Freeze, there has been talk of, who else are they talking about over there? Oh, Doom! And there is Professor X. Pick one? I’m going to go for something that is a little bit different. I’m going to go and put it out in the universe that it is Professor X."

Esposito's potential casting in the celebrated film and television franchise shouldn't come as a shocker considering Star Wars and Marvel actors have crossed over from one universe to the other on numerous occasions.

On his desire to play Earth-616's version of Charles Xavier, while many believe that he'd be a credible Doctor Doom or Magneto, I get that Giancarlo doesn't want to get stereotyped in villain roles, and given the fact he's already playing a major baddie in the MandoVerse, the comparisons will be hard to dodge.

That said, Marvel Studios' plans for the X-Men reboot have yet to be disclosed.
