It looks like Henry Golding is about to learn from one of the best martial artists available. The highly anticipated G.I. Joe spin-off film focusing on Snake Eyes has just cast The Raid star Iko Uwais as the leader of the Arashikage clan.
The casting news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which confirms that Uwais will join the Snake Eyes movie as Hard Master, who is described as a "tough as nails teacher who is also a skilled sword master." This shouldn't be much of a problem for the Indonesian martial artist, who previously appeared in the Netflix series Wu Assassins.
We don't know much about the plot of Snake Eyes just yet but the film is expected to be the G.I. Joe character's origin story. In the movie, Snake Eyes will be "seeking revenge for his father's death by joining a ninja clan" and ending up being on the bad side of his own brother. Snake Eyes' sibling and archnemesis will be played by Andrew Koji.
It's certainly beginning to look like Snake Eyes is finding more experienced martial artists to join the cast. Although Golding's martial arts skills are still untapped, he's got good company with Uwais and Koji, who previously appeared in the HBO/Cinemax series Warrior. We're certainly looking forward to this action-packed film.
Snake Eyes will be directed by Robert Schwentke from a script penned by Evan Spiliotopoulos. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner will serve as producers. The film is currently expected to begin production in Tokyo and Vancouver this fall. It is then scheduled for release on October 16, 2020.
