G.I. Joe Reboot Looking at Tom Holland and John Cena to Star

Besides the Transformers franchise, Hasbro is set to bring back another toy line to the big screen in the form of G.I. Joe. Besides the upcoming Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, word has it that they already have stars in mind to lead the main franchise.

According to insider Daniel Richtman (via Full Circle Cinema), an upcoming G.I. Joe film is looking at Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Far from Home) and John Cena (The Suicide Squad) to star. We don't have any details on who they are being eyed to play, but it's said that they are listed for Male Lead 1 and Male Lead 2.

This is just me guessing, but I think Holland is being eyed to play a young, fresh face who will be new to the Joes, and Cena will be playing his more experienced superior. If you've followed G.I. Joe, you would think that Cena fits the role of lead character Duke pretty well; but maybe the movie is looking to have Holland play Duke, and he will be contrasted with Cena's character who is the more traditional version of the character.

Nothing official has been confirmed yet, but I can see both getting cast. Cena has been getting more and more big-screen roles lately, and G.I. Joe seems to fit his brand. I guess Holland is the one I'm unsure will get cast, seeing as he's pretty busy with Spider-Man and Uncharted; then again, he always seems to be working so I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to star in another franchise.

A G.I. Joe film has not been officially announced, but Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins is set to release on Oct. 22, 2021.
