Ghost in The Shell Outdoes Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in Social Media Buzz

It looks like the live-action film adaptation of Ghost in the Shell is stealing the spotlight on social media as it draws closer to its release date this year.

While many would expect Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 or Disney's Beauty and the Beast to lead conversations on social media this month, a new report by Variety reveals that Scarlett Johansson's Ghost in the Shell has topped the buzz by generating 30,000 new conversations online.

Based on media-measurement firm comScore's PreAct Service, Ghost in the Shell's numbers rank far better than Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which generated only 24,000 new conversations this week.

This may come as a surprise – after all, the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel was considered as the most talked-about film which had a Super Bowl trailer earlier this month. Marvel also released new promotional images and videos last week and the film's test screening earned it a score of a 100.

The possible reason why Ghost in the Shell has topped conversations as of late is because of its close release date as well as an interview with Johansson regarding the controversial issue of whitewashing as well as an announcement for its new trailer.

Ghost in the Shell premieres on the big screen on March 31 this year.
