With its release date a few weeks away from now, Paramount has been shifting to full gear on the promotion of its upcoming Ghost in the Shell live-action film adaptation, rolling out new trailers and posters for the film.

The studio has just released a brand new Ghost in the Shell featurette today, discussing the mystery surrounding the origin of The Major (Scarlett Johansson) and her identity.

Check out the featurette down here:

"Who is The Major is a really good question. This film is really about the journey of self-discovery for the character." Johansson explains in the video. "This experience has been nothing else like I've had before. It's a ride, for sure."

While the new trailer regarding The Major's identity and the search for herself may sound like a simple get-to-know promo for Ghost in the Shell, fans of the franchise may find the video as another attempt at steering away from the whitewashing issues of the film. Casting Johansson for the role has led to a lot of controversy, and to mitigate the backlash, the production has decided to change The Major from Motoko Kusanagi, to Meera. So yes, who is the Major? Because she's certainly not the same cyborg Section 9 squad leader of the original anime film franchise.
