George R.R. Martin's Wild Cards Getting Multiple Shows from Hulu

Game of Thrones is set to end next year, and with that show turning out to be a massive success, a lot of people are scrambling to get any IP they can from author George R.R. Martin. News has come out that Hulu has gotten their hands on one of Martin's IP, and they're developing it into multiple shows.

As per Variety, Hulu is currently working on developing multiple shows based on the Wild Cards universe which Martin is known to edit. For now, Hulu has opened a writers room for two shows, and Andrew Miller (Syfy's Tremors) is set to be the showrunner. Martin himself is also said to be attached as an EP as well as his co-editor Melissa Snodgrass.

To those who don't know, Wild Cards is a very different animal compared to Game of Thrones. It's set in an alternate Earth post-WWII, with an alien virus having infected a huge chunk of the population. Very much like X-Men, the virus grants infected people random powers, either that or it turns them into grotesque monsters. You can say that the way the virus can either help or destroy people is so unpredictable that it can be a "wild card."

So far, the world of Wild Cards doesn't exist solely in the books. There have been games and graphic novels set in the universe as well, and soon after, a TV series.

We have no idea how successful this Wild Cards show is going to be, but with Martin's name attached, and Game of Thrones ending, you bet a lot of audiences are going to check out this new series.

No release date has been set for Wild Cards.
