George Lucas Will Reportedly Regain Creative Control of Star Wars From Disney

I think we can all agree that Star Wars still remains one of the most lucrative franchises in the world of entertainment and despite Disney being unable to hit the mark with the sequel trilogy which ended up being a giant mess, the collective "Forces" of Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have been able to turn things around for Lucasfilm and thanks to the success of The Mandalorian, the franchise felt reinvigorated all of a sudden.

The thing is, Lucasfilm can't rely on the Mandoverse forever considering it's not set in the current Star Wars timeline and sooner or later, the franchise will once again be looking into the future post-Skywalker saga. And even if the Mandoverse has been consistently delivering, there's no guarantee that Disney won't commit the same mistakes it did with the sequels but according to a new rumor, the House of Mouse could eventually lose creative control over the franchise.

A scoop from Inside The Magic suggests that the Star Wars rights may revert back to George Lucas. YouTube channel Overlord DVD seems to support the rumor and insider Doomcock (via Bounding Into Comics) is claiming that Lucas is adamant about doing the trilogy he wanted to direct before Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm several years back.

It's unclear how Lucas regains control over the franchise considering he's no longer involved with the production company but I guess we'll just have to see how it all plays out. Of course, just like any rumor, take this one with a Death Star-sized grain of salt. If we're being honest, George's track record isn't perfect by any means and the director's Star Wars films have either been a hit or a miss but you can't deny the fact that there's no one better to take over from Disney than the franchise's creator himself.

Speaking of Star Wars, The Bad Batch is streaming on Disney+.
