George Lucas’ Ex-Wife Blasts Kathleen Kennedy & J.J. Abrams Over Sequel Trilogy

I believe it goes without saying that Star Wars fans have had a love-and-hate relationship with Disney's sequel trilogy. Starting off on a promising note with The Force Awakens, the finale trilogy of the Skywalker saga ultimately became the most divisive out of all trilogies, thanks to its questionable creative direction and to most fans, the culprit is Disney and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.

Turns out, it's not only the fans who share a collective disappointment towards the sequel films. George Lucas' ex-wife Marcia is opening up about her true feeling regarding Disney's Star Wars films and she doesn't have the kindest thing to say about it. In the newly released biography for film producer Howard Kazanjian titled Howard Kazanjian: A Producer's Life (via ScreenRant), Lucas heavily criticized Kathleen and J.J. Abrams, claiming that they don't know anything about the franchise.

Marcia said: "I Like Kathleen. I always liked her. She was full of beans. She was really smart and really bright. Really wonderful woman. And I liked her husband, Frank. I liked them a lot. Now that she's running Lucasfilm and making movies, it seems to me that Kathy Kennedy and J.J. Abrams don't have a clue about ‘Star Wars.' They don't get it. And JJ Abrams is writing these stories — when I saw that movie where they kill Han Solo, I was furious. I was furious when they killed Han Solo. Absolutely, positively there was no rhyme or reason to it."

The editor of the original Star Wars trilogy continued: "I thought, You don't get the Jedi story. You don't get the magic of ‘Star Wars.' You're getting rid of Han Solo? They have Luke disintegrate. They killed Han Solo. They killed Luke Skywalker. And they don't have Princess Leia anymore. And they're spitting out movies every year. And they think it's important to appeal to a woman's audience, so now their main character is this female, who's supposed to have Jedi powers, but we don't know how she got Jedi powers, or who she is. It sucks. The storylines are terrible. Just terrible. Awful. You can quote me…JJ Abrams, Kathy Kennedy — talk to me.'"

Thankfully, Disney has been able to turn things with the success of The Mandalorian but despite that, there are still legions of fans across the galaxy who can't seem to take away the bitter taste the sequels left in their mouths. As it stands, all three films from the Disney era remain canon and it seems like Lucasfilm has no plans of erasing it from existence despite several rumors popping up. Apparently, it would take a lot for Disney and Lucasfilm to make good with jaded fans.
The entire Skywalker saga is available for streaming on Disney+.
