Almost every DC Fan knows Dick Grayson in DC Universe's Titans. While the character appears in the DC Universe's live-action series as the Boy Wonder even after his falling out with the Dark Knight before the events of the series, many expect Dick to move on and take on the persona of Nightwing.
Speaking in an interview on DC Comics Official blog, Geoff Johns explains why the series still hasn't shown Dick as Nightwing yet, saying that the character is still struggling to find a new identity and to find out who he was.
This internal turmoil is pretty clear at the start of Titans. In the show, Grayson seems rather unsure himself while he isn't in the shadow of Batman. Not only does his colleagues say that he's a bit difficult to work with, but Robin also seems to have a few anger issues in the series.
"We talked a lot about starting Dick Grayson as Nightwing," Johns admitted in the interview. "We all got to a point where we're going to miss and hop over what I think is a really interesting period of Dick Grayson's life where he left Batman and he was struggling to find a new identity and who he was."
However, Johns also teases that as the series goes along, Grayson will finally find his place without Batman. Once he finds himself, Grayson may then take on his role as Nightwing.
"We took a sliver of the comics that dealt with Dick Grayson post-Batman a little bit and amplified that even more, exploring what that period for Dick Grayson was really like," Johns went on. "Nightwing is such a stable, confident, emotionally-balanced character; he's Dick Grayson when he's found his place in the world. We wanted to build up to him becoming Nightwing."
This is definitely going to be an interesting arc for Robin in Titans. We can't wait to see the character grow and mature as he finds his way without the guidance of Batman.
Titans is now streaming on DC Universe.
