It's been a few years since Justice League: Darkseid War and DC Universe: Rebirth have come out but fans are still wondering about that mystery of the three Jokers. In one of the odder twists of DC history, there are actually three versions of the Clown Prince of Crime but we have yet to see a payoff to this reveal. After years of waiting, we're finally going to get that payoff this June as DC has officially announced Batman: Three Jokers by Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok.
First revealed by Entertainment Weekly, Batman: The Three Jokers will finally delve into this big mystery that has been haunting fans for the longest time. Hopefully, this will match up with the upcoming timeline that Wally West will be introducing during Generation One but we'll have to wait and see. Apparently, this won't be a typical Batman vs Joker story and it won't get delayed, which is nice to hear.
"The world doesn't need just another Batman-Joker story. One of the reasons I've never done one before is because there are so many amazing ones, so I was only gonna do one if it was different and surprising and looked at the Joker and the meaning of the Joker and his effect on Batman and his family in a new way. We're not introducing a multiverse of Jokers, we're not out to change these characters forever, but we are turning over some rocks about these characters and their relationships."
Johns also mentions how the three-issue series' look will be based on Brian Bolland's art from The Killing Joke, which isn't a bad thing. That story might be a bit overrated but it did look really good and we're glad to see it play some sort of influence, though the fact that we might end up revisiting this story again, along with Death in the Family, does have some of us worried.
After many long years, Batman: Three Jokers will be coming out on June 17.
