Gary Oldman Thinks Joaquin Phoenix Would Make A Great Batman If Ben Affleck Leaves

Gary Oldman may have put his Batman days behind him, but people still want him to comment on the current cinematic version of the Caped Crusader. With all of these clashing reports about Ben Affleck wanting to leave the role of Bruce Wayne, Oldman gives his two cents on who should don the cowl for the DCEU.

Talking to TooFab at the 7th Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts International Awards, Oldman says:

"I would like to see someone like Joaquin Phoenix play it. This is no disrespect to Ben Affleck. I think it really depends on who is at the wheel that lifts it."

Though I think that Phoenix would do a great job with whatever role he's given, I think working on a superhero franchise would be limiting for someone of his status and resume. With roles in movies like Her, Gladiator, and The Master, I can't imagine Phoenix wanting to try out comic book movies.

Then again, Amy Adams was in The Master and she's currently the DCEU's Lois Lane.

Personally, if Affleck leaves, I would like to see Jon Hamm take over the role. We all know he can play a rich and suave gentleman already, but the question is what kind of Batman he's going to bring to the table.

No official release date has been announced for The Batman.
