Game Of Thrones Writer Developing An Additional Prequel Spinoff Series For HBO’s Fantasy Epic

Game of Thrones might be down to its eighth and final season, however, HBO's been looking at developing four prequel spinoff series for fans of the popular fantasy epic. Now, new reports reveal that Game of Thrones episode writer Bryan Cogman is actually working on a fifth prequel series for the network.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Cogman is reportedly working closely with A Song of Ice and Fire author, George R.R. Martin, developing another Game of Thrones spinoff series to add on to the four shows that were initially reported in July. The fantasy writer had referred to a fifth prequel on his blog after HBO announced that it had plans to develop four Game of Thrones spinoffs two months ago, and it looks like this project with Cogman's the series he was talking about.

Though Game of Thrones showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff have both declined invitations to work on the prequel series, it seems like Cogman's a good bet for the fifth spinoff. The writer's been with the series ever since it ran its first season on HBO, working on episodes like What is Dead May Never Die, Kissed by Fire, Oathkeeper, and Stormborn.

Game of Thrones has yet to finish its final season on HBO, so the network has a lot of time to go through all of its prequel pitches and pick the best ones for production.

Game of Thrones Season 8 premieres sometime in 2018 or 2019.
