The previous weekend was an exciting one for The Witcher fans as the franchise dropped a lot of updates. However, it was also a surprising one for Game of Thrones fans who were not expecting Kristofer Hivju to transform into a monster in a teaser for The Witcher Season 2.
Last year, it was confirmed that Hivju will play Nivellen in The Witcher Season 2. The Game of Thrones star was an interesting choice for the role considering that Nivellen is a man who was cursed to look like a monster. Not surprisingly, our first glimpse at Hivju in the second season confirms he has transformed. Check out the clip below.
It's all prosthetics and CGI magic but Henry Cavill insists that this is Hivju's true appearance.
"The amazing, the wonderful, the electric and the enigmatic Kristofer Hivju. Kristofer was extraordinarily brave for season 2 of the Witcher and decided to play his character of Nivellen with zero make up or visual effects, as you can see above. Kristofer, we are all so proud," Cavill wrote.
Nivellen is an important character in The Witcher lore as he appears in Andrzej Sapkowski's short story A Grain of Truth, He is the first "monster" Geralt of Rivia encounters who isn't really a monster. Interestingly, the character is based on the Beast in, you guessed it, Beauty and the Beast.
Hivju is best known for playing Tormund Giantsbane in Game of Thrones. He first appeared in the third season and was one of the characters who made it through to the final season.
The Witcher Season 2 will premiere on Netflix on December 17, 2021.
