Game of Thrones Star Maisie Williams Says She's 'Looking Forward' to Spinoff House of the Dragon

The critically-acclaimed HBO TV show Game of Thrones still remains one of the best shows of our generation. Based on George R. R. Martin's book series, A Song of Ice and Fire, the show's extraordinary conclusion completed each key character's arc, including fan-favorite Maisie William's Arya Stark.

Following Game of Thrones' monumental success, it's no longer surprising how HBO decided to give green light to a spinoff. With the official title House of the Dragon, the spinoff will serve as a prequel set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and the Targaryen civil war.

As Game of Thrones fans patiently wait for the spinoff to arrive this summer, one actress from the beloved show is also thrilled to see the series.

In a recent interview with Variety, Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams opens up about her excitement with the HBO spinoff, House of the Dragon, saying that she's looking forward to seeing it, especially because her friend, Olivia Cooke is part of the show.

"Yes. I’m really looking forward to it, actually," Williams said. "My friend Olivia [Cooke] is in it, and it’s been really interesting just chatting to her about the experience. I think it’s actually a lot more pressure. All of the hung-over concerns of our show are now just being piled onto this new cast of people who had nothing to do with it. I want to be as supportive as possible to her as an actress, but also, I’m just really curious. I’m kind of looking forward to watching “Game of Thrones” — even though it’s not “Game of Thrones” — and experiencing it as a person that’s not on it. ‘Cause all I’ve done is meet people who have done just that, and I never really was able to relate to it."

Considering how HBO's Game of Thrones maintained a compelling momentum from the show's beginning to end, House of the Dragon undoubtedly has big shoes to fill. And now that the spinoff is finally slated for this year, it appears that Maisie Williams will now experience the world of Game of Thrones as a fan, rather than as an actress. While Game of Thrones’ ending might still not be acceptable to some fans, let’s hope that the House of the Dragon spinoff would somehow end on a high note.

Game of Thrones is available to stream on HBO Max while spinoff House of the Dragon will premiere on August 21.
