Game of Thrones Star Kit Harington Calls Out Marvel For Lack of Gay Actors

Kit Harington might not be giving us any details about the final Game of Thrones season but he is going to be vocal about gender and queer representation in Hollywood. The Jon Snow actor made his feelings clear during a Q and A session in the Toronto Film Festival, wondering out loud why Marvel hasn't cast a gay actor in a leading role.

Harington feels that Hollywood's problems with queer representation come from the fact that they don't see homosexuality and masculinity going hand in hand, which is a serious problem. The actor does have a point since casting a gay actor as a lead character in a Marvel movie would help out a lot, considering how big the studio has become.

"There's a big problem with masculinity and homosexuality that they can't somehow go hand in hand. That we can't have someone in a Marvel movie who's gay in real life and plays some superhero. I mean, when is that going to happen?"

DC hasn't released a good movie in a while but they do seem to be taking these steps while Marvel waits for an appropriate time. We're getting a Batwoman series from the CW next year with Ruby Rose as the lead and Justice League cast Ezra Miller, an openly queer actor, as The Flash.

Marvel has been taking some steps in proper representation, with Black Panther having a mostly black cast and Captain Marvel finally having a female lead. Still, it would be great seeing an LGBTQ actor/actress in a lead role, whether the hero is a member of the community or not.
