Game of Thrones Showrunners No Longer Working on HBO's Confederate After Netflix Deal

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have garnered a mixed reaction from the fandom community, with many people loving their work in Game of Thrones and others hating what the duo did during the final few seasons of Game of Thrones. Even with the series' ending in a controversial way, the duo seems to be doing fine for themselves, with a number of Star Wars movies from them coming soon and now, a huge Netflix deal.

However, that huge Netflix deal has come at a cost; their HBO alternate history series TheConfederate is dead in the water, according to Vulture. This series would have imagined a world where the South won the Civil War and nazis basically ruled the world. Think Bethesda's Wolfenstein games but with even more swearing and sex, due to HBO's obsessions with those things.

This huge Netflix deal for DnD gives them a ton of creative freedom and plenty of money. Add the Star Wars trilogy the duo are working on and it seems like they are pretty swamped with projects all around. Frankly, it's not a huge surprise to see HBO cancel The Confederate, especially with all of the controversy surrounding it. If the showrunners can't work on it, why even bother?

It's not yet clear what Weiss and Benioff's next big project after Game of Thrones will be, though signs seem to be pointing to Star Wars.
