If you were one of the millions of people who tuned in to watch Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 2, you were probably moved by Podrick's haunting song by the fireplace. The tune, which is actually Jenny's Song and appears in George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, certainly has a sad message and it might reveal what will happen to Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen.
In the novels, Jenny's Song is believed to be written about Jenny of Oldstones, a woman who is somehow connected to Jon and Dany. You see, Jenny was a commoner who married Prince Duncan Targaryen, who was supposed to take the Iron Throne back in the day.
Although he was set to become the next King of Westeros, Duncan had decided to renounce the throne so he could marry Jenny. It was only after a witch predicted that the Prince That Was Promised would be born from the line of Prince Aerys and Princess Rhaella that he was allowed to do so.
So how does this line up with Jon and Dany? The two currently have a problem because they both have a claim to the Iron Throne (although Jon's claim is stronger). Unfortunately, one of them would have to give up that claim.
That seems like a good ending on its own, but Jenny's Song tells the story of what happened after she married Duncan. Unfortunately, the prince and his father were killed at the Tragedy of Summerhall, which is said to be the hall in which Jenny dances with her ghosts. Could this mean one of them will die while the other wishes to join them? The truth could be revealed soon.
Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3 will air on HBO on April 28.
