The series finale of Game of Thrones was truly an amazing one despite people having their own opinions about how the HBO show should end. But what exactly happened to the Iron Throne?
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS! Watch Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 6 before going any further!
In the Season 8 finale, Daenerys Targaryen announces that she has every intention to free slaves around the world. The speech doesn't impress Tyrion Lannister, who throws away his Hand of the Queen pin. When Jon Snow visits the imprisoned Tyrion, the imp tries to persuade Jon to take the Iron Throne from Daenerys but Jon is unwilling to do it.
Daenerys finally makes it to the throne room in the Red Keep. Not surprisingly, it's exactly what it looks like in her vision in the House of the Undying except we're seeing ashes and not snow. Unlike her vision, she finally touches the throne and is about to sit down when Jon arrives.
The two discuss what needs to be done. Although Jon insists that mercy is important, Dany insists that what she is doing is right and anyone who opposes her will have to accept it. She wants him to join her and he tells her she is his queen forever. As they kiss, Jon stabs Dany with his dagger.
As Jon weeps over Dany's dead body, Drogon arrives to check on his mother. Upon finding her dead, the enraged dragon breathes fire throughout the throne room. He burns down the Iron Throne in his rage and carefully picks up Dany's body and flies away.
Unfortunately, the one thing that everyone has fought over since the first season was destined to be burned down by the same thing that forged it. Interestingly, its destruction was caused by the actions of a man named after Aegon the Conqueror, the one who had it built in the first place.
In the end, the Iron Throne no longer existed and Daenerys somehow succeeded in breaking the wheel as she promised.
