Game Of Thrones Prequel Casts Naomi Watts In Mystery Role

It looks like the highly anticipated Game of Thrones prequel has found its first major star. Mulholland Drive actress Naomi Watts has been cast in a mystery role in the new HBO series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Watts will portray "a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret." However, the character's name has not yet been revealed.

Although the Game of Thrones prequel is expected to be set in the same universe, the new show will not feature characters that have already appeared in the current series. After all, the drama will take place thousands of years before most of the current characters were born.

The Game of Thrones prequel will be helmed by Jane Goldman and A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin. The writer recently celebrated Watts' casting by tweeting that the "successor series" will be called The Long Night.

Watts' casting immediately had fans speculating about her character. Although some believed that she might be playing a Lannister ancestor, there have been firm believers that the character is from Valyria. Others yet just wanted Martin to continue working on the sixth A Song of Ice and Fire book The Winds of Winter.

Watts is the first actor to join the Game of Thrones prequel. According to Martin, casting is still underway and the series could be adding new cast members in the next month. We'll be keeping you updated on all casting news related to the new HBO show.

Game of Thrones Season 8 has not yet been given an official premiere date. Nevertheless, the show's final season is expected to air on HBO by Summer 2019.
