Game of Thrones: Hodor Actor Thinks Ed Sheeran Cameo was Kind of Dumb

Kristian Nairn may have said goodbye to playing Hodor way back in Game of Thrones 6, but that doesn't mean that he can't make comments about the show as it moved forward without him. Last season had an appearance from Ed Sheeran as a Lannister soldier, and was met with a lot of scrutiny from fans—al scrutiny Nairn thinks is justified.

Talking to The Huffington Post, Nairn explains:

"I'm not a fan of the cameos in Game of Thrones. I don't like them. I think it's stupid. I don't mind going on the record on that. I just think it takes you right out of the world. Especially Ed Sheeran. I was like, ‘Why is Ed Sheeran here?' I mean, Ed Sheeran's great. He's a great guy, great musician, but why is he in Game of Thrones? I'm not saying I'm not a fan of Ed Sheeran. I'm being tactful here, but just not a fan of the cameo. I think most people would agree with me there. It was a big snap to reality. It's like, ‘What? What?' It's a fantasy show. We're all caught in this amazing world and spend so much time and money and talent to create, and all of a sudden there's a pop star? What?"

Of course, the show has actually had several other musicians cameo in the show, but Sheeran is no doubt the most recognizable face. Nairn should also be one to talk since he himself is an accomplished DJ offscreen. Then again, I'm pretty sure his GoT role is more intrusive as compared to his DJ career.

Personally, my problem with Sheeran's cameo is not him showing up, but the way he sings in the episode. You can't have an old-timey soldier singing with a voice of a modern-day pop-star. He should have taken pointers from Bronn actor Jerome Flynn who made his singing period accurate despite being part of a pop band.

No, really:

No release date has been set for Game of Thrones 8.
