Game of Thrones’ George R.R. Martin Shares A New Look At Giant Ice Spiders

HBO might be keeping the Game of Thrones season 8's secrets close to its chest, but George R.R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire, the book series which serves as the basis for the show, can't help but tease the fanbase with new art.

Taking to Twitter to share a picture from the upcoming 2020 calendar for A Song of Ice and Fire, Martin gives fans a look at the legendary ice spiders from children's tales in Westeros. Gigantic and menacing, the ice spiders seem to have white walkers perched up on top of them, ready for battle.

"Here's an official sneak peek of John Howe's cover art of our 2020 SoI&F calendar," Martin wrote in the caption for his post. "featuring the legendary ice spiders which haunt old Nan's creepiest bedtime stories."

The giant creepy crawlies certainly send a chill down the spine, though we're not quite sure whether we'll get to see any of these ice spiders in the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones. After all, they do come from Nan's bedtime stories – though some of these tales have been proven to have some sort of nugget of truth in them.

Aside from Game of Thrones, Martin's fans are also patiently waiting for the arrival of the last novel in the author's A Song of Ice and Fire book series, the highly anticipated Winds of Winter. While it's very likely that Game of Thrones is going to end before the book even comes out, Martin has promised fans that he's finally committed to completing A Song of Ice and Fire. We can only hope that the book comes out soon enough.

Game of Thrones season 8 debuts sometime in April 2019.
