Game Of Thrones Finale: Breaking Down The Last Death In The Iron Throne [SPOILERS]

It's no surprise that the final episode of Game of Thrones Season 8 is titled The Iron Throne. After all, it has been something that people have been fighting over since the first season of the HBO show. Countless people have died for it and yet another has done so in the series finale.

WARNING: Spoilers ahead! Make sure to watch Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 6 before you proceed!

In The Iron Throne, Daenerys Targaryen declared her victory after the sack of King's Landing. She appointed Grey Worm as Master of War then announces that she will liberate the entire world after Westeros. Tyrion Lannister publicly resigns as Hand of the Queen and is promptly arrested. Jon Snow, who witnesses the Unsullied killing Lannister soldiers who have surrendered, visits Tyrion and realizes that Daenerys will have him and his sisters killed if he doesn't stop her.

Jon finds Daenerys at the throne room in the destroyed Red Keep where he tries to convince her not to kill the innocent. However, it looks like Dany is determined to keep her word and will stop at nothing to "free" the entire world. Jon stabs Dany and is immediately confronted by Drogon, who proceeds to burn down the Iron Throne. The dragon then collects Dany's remains and flies away.

It's a sad death that most fans have expected for some time. There have been several theories that Jon would be the one to kill Dany in the end but the reason behind it was still surprising. In the end, the Mother of Dragons was going to be a tyrant and Jon had ultimately killed her to save himself, his sisters, and the entire world. It was a terrible sacrifice and a depressing conclusion for the woman who many expected would become the rightful ruler of Westeros.

Interestingly, Dany's death also fulfilled the prophecy of three treasons. The first treason for blood was committed in the first season by Mirri Maz Duur using blood magic to somehow reanimate Khal Drogo. The second treason for gold might be a lot of things but the first one we could remember is Doreah allowing Dany's dragons to be captured by Xaro Xhoan Daxos and Pyat Pree. The third treason for love was done by Jon Snow for his love for her and his own family.
