The update comes from HBO Drama Chief Francesca Orsi who recently spoke to Deadline about the network's programming plans. Orsi confirmed that HBO intends to explore The Hedge Knight's storytelling in a creative manner.

"The plan is more of a creative one in that much of the reasoning behind it is that it has a smaller canvas, that there's an intimacy to the visual canvas that allows us to generate the show faster than say House of the Dragon might turn around because there's so much VFX," she explained.

"You may know based on the novellas that dragons don't exist so by virtue of that it will be a faster piece to turn around given that we don't have all these visual effect assets needing to deliver," Orsi continued.

She added that for The Hedge Knight, the plan is to follow the series "ideally year-to-year and arcing out a three-season series, which maps out the three novellas that [George R.R. Martin] wrote."

Orsi continued, "Of course, we'd like more beyond that, and George is continuing to think about the remaining novellas that he still wants to write but at this point, we have our eye on three seasons that would map out each book, each novella."

It was previously confirmed that the new Game of Thrones series will be titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight and is based on George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk & Egg novellas.

It will follow the young knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his little squire Egg. The series will be set about 90 years before the events in Game of Thrones and could possibly feature a character we already met in the main series.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is still in early development and has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
