2016 has been a tragic year since it took a lot of celebrities away from this world. From actors like Anton Yelchin, Alan Rickman, Gene Wilder, and Alan Thicke to musicials like David Bowie, George Michael, and Prince, it was a year that sucked away happiness like a dementor. This week, Carrie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds (Fisher's mother) and author Richard Adams passed away. Celebrities have taken it online to share their condolences and memories. A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin expressed his sadness over the deaths of Fisher and Adams on his Not a Blog.

Here's what he said about Carrie Fisher:

"There is not much I can say about the death of Carrie Fisher that a thousand other people have not said already. She was way too young. A bright, beautiful, talented actress, and a strong, witty, outspoken woman. Princess Leia will live as long as STAR WARS does… probably forever…"

Here's what he said about Richard Adams:

"Adams was a wonderful writer. Yes, WATERSHIP DOWN was his masterpiece, but it was by no means his only great book. He wrote two terrific epic fantasies with human characters, SHARDIK and MAIA, both of which I think are criminally underrated, as well as an erotic ghost story, THE GIRL ON A SWING. His other "animal book," THE PLAGUE DOGS, also has some wonderful sections… though it is such a dark, depressing, angry, gut-punch of a novel that I can't say I ‘enjoyed' it."

Fisher died at 60, and Adams died at 93. The actress will appear in Star Wars: Episode VIII, which is set to release in theaters December 15, 2017. Richard Adams' Watership Down is being developed into a mini-series, which is coming to Netflix and BBC One in 2017.
