Veteran actor Max von Sydow has starred in over 160 films over his career, and news has just come out that Sydow has passed away at the age of 90.
According to the Evening Standard, Sydow's family had said in a statement:
"It is with a broken heart and with infinite sadness that we have the extreme pain of announcing the departure of Max von Sydow, March 8, 2020."
We don't really have a cause stated when it comes to Sydow's death, but at the age of 90, I think it would be safe to say that it was due to natural causes. Then again, we should just wait for an official announcement somewhere down the line.
Sydow has had a very colorful career in cinema, playing villains like Ming in Flash Gordon and an iteration of Blofeld in the Bond film Never Say Never Again. Most recently, he had made an appearance as the Three-Eyed Raven in Game of Thrones before Bran Stark took the role, and he also had a short appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as Lor San Tekka, an old friend of Luke Skywalker who was struck down by Kylo Ren.
Film buffs will also know Sydow from the classic movie The Seventh Seal where he plays a man who has a chess match with Death.
Needless to say, Sydow has definitely made his mark in cinema, and more generations of people are sure to be touched by his work.
