Galaxy Quest TV Series In Development at Paramount+

Galaxy Quest has gained cult status all over the years ever since its original theatrical release back in 1999. The film was not only praised for being hilarious and fun but for also being an affectionate parody and tribute to the legacy of Star Trek and its dedicated fandom.

For the last couple of years, there have been attempts to bring back the property into a TV series format. However, none of them came to fruition and it looked like the film will no longer have a new life on the small screen.

Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, a new attempt is being made once again as Paramount+ is currently developing the live-action TV series adaptation of Galaxy Quest. The project is currently in early development and a search is underway for the writer of the series.

Mark Johnson, who produced the original film, will executive produce the TV series adaptation and is also set to co-write alongside the new writer that will be hired. It is unknown yet whether this is going to be a reboot or if they will bring back the surviving cast members of the original.

The previous attempt to bring Galaxy Quest into television was done back in 2015 when the project was set up at Amazon. Dean Parisot, who directed the original, and Robert Gordon, who co-wrote the screenplay, were going to be involved in the new incarnation, but it never moved past development.

Afterward, Paul Scheer took over the project and was planning to bring back the original cast of the film. Unfortunately, the plans fell through when Alan Rickman passed away with the addition of the cast members' busy schedules.

The project became dormant for years and now it is being revived with a new incarnation that will hopefully move forward this time around. Interestingly enough, it is now going to be on the same home as the Star Trek franchise, the property that it is spoofing.

It is curious to see whether this new attempt will actually happen unlike the previous iterations as a lot of fans have expressed their interest in revisiting this property. While Rickman has unfortunately passed away, perhaps the remaining cast members might be willing to participate in this incarnation.
