Last week, a recent interview with Gal Gadot made some rounds online as she revealed that she is set to return as Wonder Woman in a third solo movie that she is developing with DC Studios chairmen James Gunn and Peter Safran.

The actress' announcement caused mixed reactions among fans online. While some of them were delighted to see her continue playing the role, there were also some who were confused since it is a sign that the DCU won't be a complete reboot after all.

Prior to Gadot's reveal in the interview, DC Studios was only knowingly to be working on one Wonder Woman-related project which is the Paradise Lost prequel series for Max.

Now, we finally have the clarification surrounding Gadot's claim on her return as Wonder Woman and it sounds like she's not actually continuing the role after all.

Variety has confirmed from multiple sources that Wonder Woman 3 is apparently not in development at DC Studios after all despite Gadot's claims in a recent interview.

They added that Gunn and Safran currently don't have any plans for a Wonder Woman project aside from Paradise Lost and nothing was promised to Gadot regarding a third solo movie or continuing to play Wonder Woman in the new DCU.

So far, Gadot has not responded to the report yet nor has there been any clarification regarding why she made such comments about her future as Wonder Woman.

While the report has not definitely declared that Gadot's tenure as Wonder Woman is officially over, this is more or less a sign that we won't likely see her play the role in the new DCU moving forward unless Gunn says otherwise.

This is disappointing news for fans of the actress since Gadot's announcement was apparently just a false alarm and it sounds like she is following the steps of her DCEU colleague Henry Cavill, who was let go from playing Superman and the role was recast with a new actor.

Gadot's tenure as Wonder Woman in the DCEU has been a mixed bag. While her first solo movie was celebrated and received acclaim, the sequel earned divisive reviews. Afterward, most of her appearances have been cameos such as in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash.

The planned third solo movie under director Patty Jenkins was also quickly shelved when Gunn and Safran took over the franchise late last year and it put Gadot's future in the role in limbo. The DC Studios chairmen have also played coy when asked about whether she will continue in the role.
