The sequel trilogy remains one of the most debated things about the Star Wars franchise and while it did show a tremendous amount of promise in the beginning, questionable creative decisions were made along the way and ultimately, Lucasfilm just didn't stick the landing.

Not even the nostalgia-driven Episode IX was able to redeem the sequel trilogy despite serving as a massive homecoming for several actors. Turns out, one star wasn't exactly proud of his involvement in the Skywalker Saga's polarizing finale, and judging by his statement, he seems to regret reprising his role.

Appearing on The Big Thing podcast, Star Wars Rebels voice actor Freddie Prinze Jr. revealed that he was only forced to do the pivotal cameo, as well as his involvement in Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

When asked about doing voice work for the franchise after Rebels, the Scooby-Doo star said: "I was, yeah. I didn’t necessarily want to. I feel like every time you hear Kanan’s voice since '[Star Wars] Rebels' ended, it really kind of dilutes his impact…"

When host Kristian Harloff followed it up by asking if he also feels the same sentiment towards The Rise of Skywalker, the actor admitted: "Yeah, I didn’t want to do that either. I was asked as a favor and I feel like all their favors are used up now."

Disney's overreliance on nostalgia did no favors for the sequel trilogy and if anything, it goes to show that fans aren't always after that.

With the franchise heading back to the big screen in the near future, one could hope that the folks over at Lucasfilm have learned from the mistakes they've committed, especially with Rey set to make her triumphant return to a galaxy far, far away.

Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker is available to stream on Disney+.
