20th Century Fox dropped the very first trailer for X-Men: Dark Phoenix yesterday, and while some fans have been busy assessing their reactions towards the trailers, others have been scrutinizing all the different Easter Eggs in the promotional video.
Surprisingly, it seems like one of the Easter Eggs actually connects Dark Phoenix to Deadpool 2.
When Deadpool 2 hit cinemas earlier this year, fans discovered that there was an Easter Egg on a card during the opening montage of the movie. Featuring a series of clips where Ryan Reynold's Merc with a Mouth was busy slashing and hacking at baddies, the montage offers a look at Deadpool trying to take out a gang in Asia. Before attacking however, Deadpool looks at a card (presumed to be a bank card) and sees something written in Chinese.
That something translates to "Red Lotus" – an obscure character in the X-Men comics who was also spotted by IGN in the trailer for Dark Phoenix.
Check out a picture of him down here:
It's a pretty easy Easter Egg to miss, on the right side of this photo is actually Andrew Stehlin, the actor who is credited as Dark Phoenix's Red Lotus, otherwise known as Paul Hark. Lotus started off as a foe of the X-Men
Red Lotus isn't that popular of a character, but in the X-Men comics, Hark is a mutant with enhanced physical abilities including agility, superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, balance, and a great mastery of the martial arts. Though Red Lotus starts out as an enemy of the X-Men, he ends up fighting alongside them to put an end to mutant slave rings.
While it's interesting to see Deadpool 2 and Dark Phoenix connect, we wonder how large of a role Red Lotus is going to have in the movie.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix premieres February 14, 2019.
