Fortnite: Sony will Finally Allow Crossplay For The PS4

It took quite a while, but Sony is finally joining Microsoft and Nintendo in the playground most fans know as Fortnite. When Microsoft and Nintendo announced cross-play functionality, fans were wondering why Sony didn't want to join them for the longest time. At least we're finally making some progress and we'll be seeing PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch owners interact in this game.

Sony acknowledged this in a blog post, stating that they knew fans have been wanting this for some time and that they are now happy to provide it. An open beta that allows PS4 players to connect with others is currently ongoing, probably being done to sort out any bugs that are being made.

Now that Sony is allowing cross-play functionality with Fortnite, fans are hoping that we will get this feature for other third-party multiplayer games. Titles like Rocket League and Minecraft have provided hours of entertainment for fans, but cross-play functionality is only available for Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch thus far.

On a statement sent to Kotaku, Sony basically said that they were looking into it but nothing is official right now. The company is trying to be more open to this new venture, which is nice, but it looks like they have to take a few more steps for this to happen.

"...we have no plans to announce at this point, but our goal remains to take a more open stance with cross-platform support that's aligned with our mission to deliver the best consumer experience."

Fortnite is available now on PS4, Xbox One, PC, iOS, and Nintendo Switch.
