It looks like Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are working on a new movie based on DC's Lovecraft comic.
According to a report by Deadline, Benioff and Weiss are now developing Lovecraft, an adaptation of a 2004 comic from DC Comic's Vertigo line. The duo had apparently been eyeing the project since they started working on Game of Thrones for HBO. Now that the fantasy epic's finally come to an end, the directors have a bit of free time on their hands, and it looks like they want to spend that time working on projects that they've long-since yearned for.
The duo caused quite a stir last month when word came out that they were going to exit from their planned Star Wars trilogy to focus on their deal with Netflix. Disney had already set aside a 2022 release date for the first film in D&D's trilogy and everyone was looking forward to the new set of Star Wars films after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
It seems like Lovecraft might be more important than Star Wars to the Game of Thrones showrunners.
For those who aren't familiar with Keith Giffen's Lovecraft, the comic imagines a world where H.P. Lovecraft's monsters are actually real and the author takes time to document them.
According to Deadline, the film adaptation of the comic is going to be set in the 1920s and is going to feature Lovecraft's encounter with Cthulhu.
Lovecraft has yet to receive a release date.
