Former Spider-Man Star Confirms He's Not in No Way Home

Fans have been looking forward to Spider-Man: No Way Home as it is heavily speculated that it will feature the appearances of former Spider-Men Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Although Sony and Marvel have yet to confirm it, there are a lot of signs and alleged leaks that tell that the two actors will be making their big return as our friendly neighbor in the upcoming MCU film.

But before Maguire played the first cinematic iteration of Spider-Man in 2002, there was Nicholas Hammond, who played the first live-action iteration of Spider-Man in the short-lived TV series The Amazing Spider-Man back in the 70s. There are fans who are wondering if Hammond would also appear in the film in a cameo role to honor the on-screen history of the character. But as it turns out, he won't be showing up at all.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Hammond confirmed that he wasn't asked to appear in the film. He said, "I think it would have been huge fun. It would have been a kick in the pants to have the old guy there. I was really hoping I would be approached but unfortunately, that didn’t happen."

He also called Tom Holland's version the one that is closest to his take. "Tom Holland’s version is the closest to what we were doing; trying to make him very much a real guy, someone who you could actually forget he had these powers and get caught up in Peter’s story. That was what we were going for," he added.

The 70s Spider-Man series didn't really hit with the audience, but it still gained a cult following years after, and people today are still looking back to the series whenever there's a conversation regarding Marvel's history on television. It would have been nice if Hammond would at least make a cameo appearance in No Way Home as a nod to the first-ever live-action on-screen appearance of the character and it could have been a great easter egg for die-hard fans.

As fans are waiting for the release of the film, Sony and Marvel recently released a poster that confirms the appearances of the villains from the past Spider-Man films. A new trailer is also expected to drop out very soon.
