There is little doubt that everyone was shocked when Scarlett Johansson decided to file a lawsuit against Disney for allegedly breaching her contract after her solo movie, Black Widow, got a digital release. Not surprisingly, former Disney CEO Bob Iger is reportedly "mortified" that the Avengers: Endgame star chose to sue the studio.
A new report from The Wrap shares new details about the ongoing rift between Iger and new Disney CEO Bob Chapek. Interestingly, it is suggested that the Disney Executive Chairman "intentionally allowed Chapek to shoot himself in the foot" by not stepping in to handle Johansson's legal team. On the other hand, there is also a possibility that Iger "is so disconnected from his successor that he was not in the loop to step in as he usually would."
It does sound like the big bosses at Disney haven't been communicating as effectively as expected. Hopefully, the whole issue with Scarlett Johansson can be settled before everything goes out of hand.
Scarlett Johansson had filed a lawsuit alleging that Disney breached her contract by making the movie Black Widow available on its streaming service. Her contract included back-end pay based on the film's box office earnings. However, since the movie was also made available on Disney+, those earnings were greatly compromised.
For now, it is unclear how Disney will handle the lawsuit. However, there is a huge possibility that the House of Mouse will try to settle things with Johansson within the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
