There is little doubt that Black Widow will be all about Natasha Romanoff. But will the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick also introduce a new character who will take over Nat's iconic mantle? Florence Pugh has addressed the possibility that Yelena Belova will be the next Black Widow.
Pugh recently spoke to Uproxx about her character's role in the MCU film and she quickly pointed out that Yelena isn't taking Nat's place just yet.
"No, I actually will say when we were making it, it wasn't anything like that at all," Pugh said. And I am saying it very honestly, it certainly didn't feel like a passing of the torch kind of film when we were making it. And I think the direction and the feeling and the vibe behind it was genuinely just trying to make this complicated and painful story. And do it justice because a lot of fans have been waiting for [Black Widow's] film."
In addition to that, Pugh stated that fans will be pleased with the way director Cate Shortland explored Nat's backstory.
"And also a lot of people I think will appreciate this story. Cate's done an amazing job on showing these two girls and, I suppose, facing their history and facing their pain. The direction was more on that front. But I'm happy that people have appreciated the trailer and I'm looking forward to watching it," she concluded.
It is rather disappointing to know that Black Widow might be the only film where we'll see Yelena. Nevertheless, we can't wait to see her in action next year.
Black Widow will premiere on May 1, 2020.
