Florence Pugh Addresses Next Appearance in Marvel's Thunderbolts

Florence Pugh was already a megastar before she even joined Marvel. When the Little Women star made her MCU debut in 2021's Black Widow, she became an immediate favorite of most fans and has solidified herself as one of the franchise’s notable newbies. After her debut as a superhero, Pugh made a cameo in Hawkeye on Disney+, and the studios confirmed that the Midsommar star's next big-screen MCU role will be in Phase 5's Thunderbolts.

As the upcoming Marvel film is expected to begin filming in June, Pugh shared a few things about reprising her role as Yelena Belova in an interview with Total Film, via GamesRadar. “I don’t know how much I’m supposed to say actually! But I just want to say on this topic: I’m incredibly grateful to be moving forward with the MCU. I’m incredibly grateful to have had the original experience and to be able to step back into that world again in my old character.” she said.

The Dune actress stated that she has no idea what the Thunderbolts shoot will be like or what the storyline will be. However, she is embracing the mystery with both hands. “I don’t know much about what we’re shooting or what the storyline is, but I am very lucky to be in this position. That family is a very supportive one. Whatever they give me, I’ll act the hell out of it.” shared Pugh.

Whether the Hollywood star is choosing to stay tight-lipped about the intimate details of the upcoming film or she just has no idea where the story is heading, her co-star David Harbour, who plays the Red Guardian and Yelena’s adoptive father, already teased what to expect for Pugh’s character, quoting director Jake Schreier's ideas for Yelena.

“What [director Jake Schreier] wants to do with Florence’s character is very interesting and how I factor into how we develop our relationship is very interesting. And then when you see what Jake and Eric Pearson are trying to fashion, it’s really clever...So you have this movie that’s, you know, kind of ragtag.” said Harbour.

Thunderbolts will likely follow Captain America: New World Order and are slated to unite Pugh’s Yelena with Harbour's Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan's Winter Soldier, Wyatt Russell's U.S. Agent, and more.

Thunderbolts hits theaters on July 26, 2024.
