What is Five Nights at Freddy's Age Rating? Is the Movie Suitable For Kids To Watch?

Don't let the vibrant colors and seemingly friendly animatronics puppets fool you into thinking this is a kids' movie.

Five Nights at Freddy's is the live adaptation of its video game bearing the same name, and since the movie plans on hailing the story straight from the original source material, here's what the MPAA said.

According to the MPAA (via NBC), the Five Nights at Freddy's movie has been given a PG-13 rating, along with the description for having "strong violent content, bloody images, and language."

Although none of the aforementioned qualities have been shown or teased in the official trailer, the film has been tagged as horror, which should be more than enough to tell you that it wouldn't be open to every single viewer.

Take note that the producers behind M3GAN are also involved in the making of the FNAF film, which also has the same PG-13 rating.

Taking that into account, then, Five Nights at Freddy's is not suitable for kids aged 13 years old and below.

Considering that the animatronics story involves soul possessions, it won't be a pretty picture for the younger ones to witness on the big screens with loudspeakers.

Five Nights at Freddy's Director Defends PG-13 Rating

In a recent interview with Forbes, director Emma Tammi defended why the crew behind the live adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy's stuck with the PG-13 rating.

In this case, as much as they wanted that level of violence, they wanted to be 'inclusive of the younger audiences' while still including some dark elements that fans would enjoy.

Here's what Tammi has to advise those who plan on watching the animatronics movie on the big screens:

"Of course, there are still dark elements to see in the lore, but in terms of some of the kills and everything, it was just all execution dependent. I would say not to expect an R-rated version on this one. We're really happy with how the PG-13 tone landed; it felt like the right fit for this particular film. We're sticking by it."

So, is Five Nights at Freddy's Suitable For Kids?

If you played the original video games of the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise, chances are you already know what to expect and what's coming in the movie.

The thriller-horror game will likely include jumpscares, not to mention, how the video game is popularly known for spooking its players while waiting for the animatronics to move on the security cameras.

But as the director herself told its fans, you need not worry about including your kids, considering that they intended the film for 13-year-olds above.
