First Trailer for Netflix's Adaptation of The Umbrella Academy

It's finally here. After years of teasers and slow updates, Netflix has finally given us out first look at their adaptation of The Umbrella Academy.

Here's the official description:

A dysfunctional family of superheroes comes together to solve the mystery of their father's death, the threat of the apocalypse and more. Adapted from the comic created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá.

If anything, the film looks like a mix of the X-Men and A Series of Unfortunate Events, what with the superhero elements mixed with the gothic look of the film. Just in case you didn't know, the Gerard Way who created these characters is the very same on who leads the band My Chemical Romance.

With the comic having some crazy visuals, I think the series actually holds up quite a bit when you look at the effects. Of course, there are still some elements from the comic that they have to "cheat" in the show. For example, in the comics, Spaceboy (No. 1) is supposed to be a human with his body attached to a gorilla's; here in the show, they give him the bulky body, but it's covered mostly in his suit. I'll admit, it's actually a clever way to go around it compared to a mo-cap body suit.

The series looks amazing, and hopefully it gets some people interested in reading the actual comic. Hopefully this is one superhero adaptation that Netflix doesn't end up cancelling too soon.

Catch The Umbrella Academy when it hits Netflix Feb. 15.
