First Parasite Trailer Hints At The Horrors Of Wealth

The first trailer for Bong Joon-ho's new film Parasite has just been dropped and it's turning out to be more terrifying than initially expected.

The trailer opens with the Kim Family, a relatively poor family who don't mind being covered in gas if it means their home can get some free fumigation. The son Ki-woo soon gets an opportunity he can't turn down: a job as the English tutor to the daughter of the wealthy Park Family. Ki-woo soon recruits his own sister Ki-jeong to become the art tutor of the Parks' young son Da-song.

Although it looks like the Kims are slowly ingratiating themselves to the Parks, there appears to be something darker happening in the Park household. Could there be a terrifying secret in the Parks' beautiful house that might corrupt the Kims, or will it be the other way around?

The trailer itself has an eerie feel that makes you think you're watching yet another South Korean horror film. However, there is so much more going on beneath the surface. After all, it comes from the same guy who gave us The Host, Snowpiercer, and Okja. In addition to that, Parasite won the Palme d'Or award at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival so this is truly something to look out for.

The synopsis for Parasite reads as follows:

"Meet the Park Family: the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist, to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide "indispensable" luxury services while the Parks obliviously bankroll their entire household. When a parasitic interloper threatens the Kims' newfound comfort, a savage, underhanded battle for dominance breaks out, threatening to destroy the fragile ecosystem between the Kims and the Parks."

Parasite will hit theaters in North America on October 11.
