First Official Trailer for Star Wars: Hunters Arrives

The faraway galaxy just keeps getting bigger and bigger, with a huge roster of upcoming new shows such as Ahsoka, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, The Mandalorian Season 3, and The Book of Boba Fett, a number of movie projects such as Rogue Squadron, and several video game titles like LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, VR experience Tales from the Galaxy's Edge – The Last Call, an open-world Star Wars game, and a remake of Knights of the Old Republic,

Now, there's yet another new trailer, which comes in the form of Star Wars: Hunters, a brand-new game that will be free to download on the Nintendo Switch and iOS and Android devices. It seems that Star Wars has no plans of slowing down across all forms of media, which doesn't really come as any sort of surprise. Nor are we complaining, as we're still recovering from that awful 2004-2008 hiatus between Revenge of the Sith and The Clone Wars, during which there was about as much happening as there was on Alderaan after A New Hope!

Check out the brand-new cinematic trailer below:

The teaser trailer for the game was easily the shortest Star Wars trailer we'd had for some time, but the new cinematic trailer is pretty spectacular. The CG animation on offer warrants its own television series, let alone game, and the colorful set of characters on display look like they belong in a Guardians of the Galaxy-esque Star Wars movie (perhaps this is what Taika Waititi is up to with his secret Star Wars movie!). With that said, it definitely doesn't look like they're all on the same team.

Star Wars: Hunters is described as a "competitive combat game", in which players will be able to connect in real-time, and do battle in several different 'Arena' settings on the world of Vespaara, each of which will be inspired by familiar locations that span the movies, which will no doubt include the Geonosis Arena from Attack of the Clones. Who knows - perhaps we'll get to lay waste to Jango Fett, Mace Windu-style! As for when the game will take place, it's said that it will be set after the collapse of the Galactic Empire, which could be any time between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

There's also an official website for the game, which boasts a pretty vibrant color pallet - quite unusual for Star Wars, but welcome all the same. The website's game overview states the following: Join the greatest Hunters from the Star Wars™ galaxy on the planet of Vespaara where Hunters from across the galaxy compete in The Arena. Engage in thrilling third-person combat to dominate grand arenas set in a range of maps that evoke iconic Star Wars worlds. Mix and match teams, use skill, tactics and customize your character to find a winning strategy and reap the spoils of victory in this all-new free-to-play game.

The website even includes a gallery of characters, which you can scroll through and read through their bios and admire the neat artwork. Characters include all those seen in the trailer: dark side warrior Rieve, Mandalorian Aran Tal, a Jawa named Utooni, J-3D1 (a droid, of course), bounty hunter Imara Vex, an Ugnaught named Sling Shot, a Sentinal Stormtrooper, Rebel Alliance veteran Zaina, and a Wookie named Grozz (we love him already). It's unclear as to whether these are the only characters in the game, but even if they are, they look pretty awesome and formidable, to say the least.

Star Wars: Hunters will be available to download for free on the Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android in 2022.
