In an interview with EMPIRE, actress DeWanda Wise, who will be making her debut appearance in the Jurassic Park franchise in this summer's hugely-anticipated Jurassic World: Dominion, has finally shed some light on her character, Kayla.

We got our first look at Kayla in the official Jurassic World: Dominion trailer, in which she appears to play a major part in almost all of the major action sequences.

As you can see, she faces the feathered Therizinosaur alongside Owen Grady and Claire Dearing, the fiery-red Pyroraptor at a mysterious facility, the huge Giganotosaur with all the franchise's returning characters, Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, Ian Malcolm, and also the enormous pterosaur, Quetzalcoatlus, while airborne with Owen and Claire.

So, needless to say, DeWanda Wise seemingly plays a role as big as the original Jurassic Park and Jurassic World characters in the upcoming movie, which is the sixth installment in the Jurassic Park series. And in her exclusive interview with EMPIRE, Wise discusses her new character, while a new image of her in her aviation suit has also been revealed.

Speaking about her experience on the set of Jurassic World: Dominion, Wise told EMPIRE, “There’s nothing like being dropped into a space to go, like, ‘Got it. I know how to walk now’. This is Kayla’s world. She’s fresh out of the Air Force and her main thing is flying cargo: mostly dinosaur stuff, but it could be anything.”

While we already knew Kayla was a pilot of some kind, as seen in the trailer, her interview reveals that she has a background in the Air Force, while also playing a pivotal role in the relocation of dinosaurs throughout North America, and perhaps even overseas, as we also know that Jurassic World: Dominion will be set all over the world.

While nothing else has been revealed about the character of Kayla, it's possible that director Colin Trevorrow is keeping things under wraps. After all, despite producer Frank Marshall hinting at future sequels beyond Jurassic World: Dominion, the trailer does suggest that this will, at the very least, be an end of an era of sorts for the series so far.

Either way, the fact that DeWanda Wise's character is a pilot, and as seen in the trailer, fans can expect plenty of airborne action sequences in the film. While such scenes almost went from storyboard to filming in The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III (though there is a brief mid-air sequence in Jurassic World), this will be a first for the franchise.
