First Images of Tom Holland in ‘Cherry’ from Avengers: Endgame Directors

After Avengers: Endgame became the highest-grossing movie of all time, director Joe and Anthony Russo have opted to make their next project a tad smaller in scale. Cherry is set to come out in February 2021 and it stars Spider-Man actor Tom Holland, and we just got our first images courtesy of Vanity Fair.

Here's the official synopsis:

An Army medic suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder becomes a serial bank robber after an addiction to drugs puts him in debt.

The movie has been described as ‘6 movies in one' and is actually based on a 2018 novel from Nico Walker. Cherry is actually considered a passion project by the Russos, seeing as the writer is from Cleveland, and Ohio is said to be a ‘ground zero in the fight against the opioid crisis'. Joe Russo explains:

"This is a movie that's supposed to define the experience of having PTSD, the experience of being addicted to opioids… And the mission of the film is to generate empathy, not to generate disdain, not to indict. You needed to empathize with his struggle and his journey because a lot of people are going through this, and they're having a very human experience. I think empathy is in incredibly short supply right now in the world. And it's a tragedy."

Though Holland is best known for playing the Spider-Man, he has done some great work with dramatic roles. Most recently he shined in Netflix's The Devil All the Time where he played a young man who's tormented by sinister characters. The Russos say they decided to cast Holland in Cherry since Holland's natural charisma draws audiences in—even when it came to the darker parts of the movie.

We don't know when we'll get our first trailer for Cherry, but the movie is expected to come out on February 26, 2021, and hit Apple TV+ on March 12, 2021.
