Universal Pictures has released the first full trailer for Peter Jackson's Mortal Engines, an epic post-apocalyptic adventure film directed by Oscar-winning visual effects artist Christian Rivers. The film is based on the novel of the same title by Philip Reeve.
The trailer reveals more of the film's plot, with Hester Shaw (played by Hera Hilmar) trying to get revenge on Thaddeus (Hugo Weaving), the Head of the Guild of Historians. We also see Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan) ally with Hester and the resistance after being thrown out of the city of London. The visual effects look stunning and overall, the film's story looks great. I can't wait to see this epic film this December. This reminds me so much of China Mieville's The Scar. I'll make sure to read the Mortal Engines novel before the film comes out.

Synopsis:
Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns. Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan)—who hails from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London—finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.
Mortal Engines stars Hugo Weaving as Thaddeus Valentine, Hera Hilmar as Hester Shaw, Robert Sheehan as Tom Natsworthy, and Stephen Lang as Shrike.
This film will be the directorial debut of Christian Rivers, who worked as a storyboard artist and art director on Peter Jackson's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Rivers won an Oscar for Visual Effects for his work on King Kong.
Mortal Engines is set to release in theaters on December 14, 2018.
