Riverdale fans get ready, as Netflix has released the first Chilling Adventures of Sabrina trailer. It definitely lives up to the Chilling part of the title, offering some creepy imagery and a kid-friendly song turned into nightmare fuel, just like most horror-oriented media. The jury is still out on the show's quality but it looks fairly decent right now.
As the song in the trailer suggests, it's Sabrina's birthday and it looks like she is going to embrace her witch heritage. This includes some fairly off-beat rituals, creepy masks, and demons from trees. You can tell that the creators want this series to revel in horror and they're doing a good job.
Based on the Archie Comics series, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a much darker take on the source material. Cannibalism, Cthulhu, and other horror conventions are the name of the game here so that might please fans of the said comic.
Granted, the quality of Riverdale might mean that this series could suffer from some inconsistent writing but we can be optimistic. Still, considering how problematic Riverdale has been with its characters and setting, fans may want to remain cautious about this series.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is expected to debut sometime in 2018.
