Marvel isn't expected to open its highly-anticipated Phase 4 until May next year with Black Widow. Despite this, the rumor mill has been buzzing online that it is set to drop the first look into the film on December 3. Although this has yet to be confirmed, a report from BGR theorizes that this may be due to Marvel Studios' timing of previous films. This year's Avengers: Endgame's trailer was released on December 7, 2018, while its predecessor Avengers: Infinity War's sneak peek dropped on November 29, 2017.
In a separate report from Variety, one of the film's star's Florence Pugh had this to say about the film: "I think we've made something very raw and very painful and very beautiful and I think people are going to be really surprised by the outcome of a big action film having that much heart."
Black Widow herself, Scarlet Johansson, has gone on the record multiple times about her excitement for fans to see the film. In a report from Comicbook.com, she describes how she feels having had the privilege of executive powers over the film.
"I feel like I'm in control of the destiny of this film, which gives me a lot more peace of mind. I know her better than anybody. What was her childhood like? What is her relationship to figures of authority?" Johansson said. "This character is gritty and multi-dimensional but has a lot of trauma and has led an unexamined life. In order to operate at this elite level, she has probably had to push away a lot of stuff."
Johansson and Pugh are joined by David Harbour as The Red Guardian, O-T Fagbenle as Mason, and Rachel Weisz as Melina. The film is directed by Cate Shortland and is set to take place following the events of Captain America: Civil War.
Black Widow will signal the beginning of Marvel Studios' Phase 4 on May 1, 2020.
