Financial Analyst Says Apple Should Acquire Netflix

Online streaming has become the modern era's take on television, and while there are a handful of names in the game, Netflix has become the leading streaming company online. With so much growth, financial services company JP Morgan believes that Apple ought to purchase Netflix.

CNBC just recently spoke with JP Morgan analyst Samik Chatterjee on Monday and according to the Financial Adviser, Apple would do well acquiring Netflix. Not only would the purchase give the tech company a competitive edge, but acquiring the leading player in the field of today's subscription streaming market would also boost the company's rank as a video content creator.

"We think Netflix is best strategic fit on leading position in engagement level as well as original content, differentiating itself from pure aggregators of content," Chatterjee explained in his analysis. "We believe there is value to acquiring the most successful player in this space, which is hard to replicate with a smaller player in this market."

Of course, the purchase won't be cheap. The acquisition of Netflix would most likely require a sizeable premium, and if that premium were to come up at 20% then Apple would most likely have to hand out at least $189 billion to purchase the company.

However, while acquiring Netflix would be a good move for Apple, the purchase of the streaming giant seems highly unlikely at this point in time. Right now, Apple is trying to get its own streaming site off the ground. It's even greenlit multiple original series.

We can only wonder what kind of success Apple might achieve in the field considering the number of sites that are already competing for consumer's subscriptions.
