Final Fantasy XV and XIV Crossover Plans in the Works

When the team and game director Naoki Yoshida were planning Final Fantasy XIV, part of the requirements was to make sure that it operated with elements from other Final Fantasy titles.

This will allow for a more cohesive yet elaborate plot for the franchise as a whole. Now, it seems that they are just as interested in expanding the game to crossover other titles, particularly the latest, Final Fantasy XV. In an interview with Newsweek, Yoshida said that players of Final Fantasy XIV will be able to showcase their characters, while making sure that they can show beyond what's available in the free trial of the game.

There's more concrete planning for introducing another slew of fans to the cast of Final Fantasy XV. in particular, the goal is to have the main cast of FFXV be introduced into the franchise and extend in FFXIV:

"There have been discussions with the FFXV team, and we're getting into the more granular details. So we're hoping that we can be able to make an announcement for what we are actually doing in the near future. We don't want this to just be, like, an outfit making a cameo. We wanted this to have some kind of substance. I have instructed the teams to make it a piece of substantial content to enjoy."

This is a good move not only for Final Fantasy XV but also in expanding the user base of Final Fantasy XIV. It will also involve a lot of responsibility sharing and online operation and server support that could go a long way towards supporting a user base.

Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood will be out on the PS4, PC, and Mac on June 20.
