Patches are always welcome in gaming, as it usually brings some new features for the game. This may not necessarily be the case for Final Fantasy XV.
Gematsu gathered the list of fixes done to the game via the 1.05 patch, as seen below:
PlayStation 4 Pro console Lite Mode compatibility with a maximum of 60 FPS
New Timed Quests (limited-time hunts and contests)
Higher level cap (up to 120)
Increased camera roll capacity 9up to 200 photos)
Portable music player for chocobo rides
Conclusion of the Moogle Chocobo Carnival
Various bug fixes.
The patch comes before the expected Booster Pack + this week. And while this does provide a few new ideas and things to do in the game, Digital Foundry confirmed that it took away a very important aspect for PS4 players.
"This isn't good. Final Fantasy 15's new PS4 Pro patch lets frame-rates go unlocked while in the ‘lite' mods John explains the problems with this approach."
Basically, what happens in the video is that the uncapped frame rate becomes harder to use as it mimics and even replaces the lite graphical option for lower framerates. The downside is that instead of a generally stable run at 30FPS, the frame rate now becomes a possible jumping game between 30 and 50 FPS, which the player can't really control.
The fact that this mode has become the only option instead of being a third one may leave some of the players frustrated. Perhaps we'll see a change in this with the next patch, after a lot of other players start giving feedback.
Final Fantasy XV is already out on the PS4 and Xbox One.
