Final Fantasy VII Remake Confirmed to be a Timed Exclusive on PS4

Even with the official announcement of Resident Evil 3 Remake and the Kingdom Hearts Re: Mind DLC, many of us feel that Final Fantasy VII Remake is still the most anticipated release of 2020. This is a remake many of us have been waiting for and it's fitting that it's coming to the PlayStation 4 first. What about those that don't have a PS4? Well, Square Enix has confirmed that the game is only a temporary PS4 exclusive, which should make Xbox One and PC fans happy.

So, when exactly is Final Fantasy VII Remake coming to other gaming systems? While there has been no official release date, Square Enix recently showed an updated cover of the game that reveals it will be a PS4 exclusive until March 3, 2021. That's right, you'll have to wait a full year until this game is available in other platforms, which means we can probably expect it on whatever Project Scarlett ends up being called.

This isn't the first time Square Enix has given us a timed exclusive. Many original PlayStation fans will remember how painful it was to wait for TheRise of the Tomb Raider since that was an Xbox One exclusive for a whole year. We can see why Microsoft would want to make that kind of deal with Square Enix since they want people to buy the Xbox One and it's the same reason Sony wants Final Fantasy VII Remake to be only theirs for a little while.

Does console exclusivity suck? Kinda, but it does force other game developers to do better for their platform and with Microsoft recently buying companies like Obsidian and Double Fine, it's clear that they want to be in better shape for the next generation.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is coming to the PS4 on March 3, 2020. No word yet on what other systems the game will be coming to once 2021 starts.
