Fast X Director Discusses Jason Momoa’s Fast and Furious Big Bad Debut

Many new characters have hopped into the driver's seat of the Fast and Furious franchise over the now two-decade-spanning story. Fast X, the next installment of the action-filled narrative, will see the return of familiar faces as well as introduce more A-list names into the roster, including Rita Moreno, Brie Larson, Daniela Melchior, Alan Ritchson, and Jason Momoa as the newest villain, Dante.

Ahead of Momoa's debut as Dom Toretto, movie director Louis Leterrier hyped up the actor's character and described the big bad as pure chaos. “Dante is in awe of Dom. He’s analyzed him. There’s nowhere to hide because he knows Dom better than he knows himself. Dom truly meets his match with Dante. The family goes both ways. There’s family on your side. There’s also family on the other person’s side. When the family that was your super-strength becomes your Achilles’ heel, it’s where you’re going to get wounded the most.” he said to Total Film.

According to the extended synopsis of the movie, “In 2011’s Fast Five, Dom and his crew took out nefarious Brazilian drug kingpin Hernan Reyes and decapitated his empire on a bridge in Rio De Janeiro. What they didn’t know was that Reyes’ son, Dante, witnessed it all and has spent the last 12 years masterminding a plan to make Dom pay the ultimate price. Dante’s plot will scatter Dom’s family from Los Angeles to the catacombs of Rome, from Brazil to London, and from Portugal to Antarctica. New allies will be forged and old enemies will resurface. But everything changes when Dom discovers that his 8-year-old son is the ultimate target of Dante’s vengeance.”

The Fast and Furious final two movies are sure to go full speed into the franchise's conclusion. Vin Diesel recently warned that the film will not necessarily end well, adding that it will have a “big” cliffhanger. “This one is big. You know, I don't want to oversell it, but what we're planning on the next one is just gigantic, in terms of action, scope, and emotion. You will feel all the feels. Tears will roll.” he teased.

Fast X hits theaters on May 19, 2023.
